In her work, Pauline Bastard reproduces social
forms, rituals and motifs in order to understand
them and turn them into collective reflections.
Each time, it’s a question of setting up a situation,
of creating a collective whose object is none other
than to reproduce the activity of a specific group
and to think through the form together.
The result is something that is not a representation, but something that lies between the participants and the borrowed form.
Born in 1982, Pauline Bastard studied at Beaux-Arts in Paris, Sorbonne and New York University.
She has been the recipient of fellowships and residencies, including Flux Factory New York, Pact Essen, Bar Project Barcelona,
18th street art center Los Angeles.
Her films have been presented in various festivals, including FID Marseille and Hors Pistes at Center Pompidou. She has exhibited, among others, at the Sao Paulo Biennale, at MAC VAL, at Fondation Pernod-Ricard, at the Kunstwerk Carlshütte, at the Kunsthal Aarhus, at Arts Santa Monica in Barcelona, at the Regional contemporary Art Fund
(FRAC) Nouvelle Aquitaine, at the Netherlands Photo Museum, at the Collège des Bernardins. Her works are
part of the collections of the Contemporary Art Fund - Paris Collections, of the National Arts Center (CNAP) and FRAC Normandie Rouen.
